Economy

With Michigan going through a major transition in overall economic investment in our state, I continuously work with my colleagues to identify new opportunities where Michigan can take the lead resulting in a more robust economy. During 2009-10, I chaired the House Republican Task Force on Agriculture which resulted in a report to identify where  the state of Michigan can make a possitive impact for this important sector of our economy.   In addition,  I have served on the Economic Developmen Council of Livingston County for 20 years and have assisted many businesses in Livingston County with specific matters or needs.  I will continue to work to move the economy in Michigan forward to provide more stability for all Michigan citizens.

Education

Promoting and funding education for youth in our state will continue to be a high priority for me.  During 2010, I served as co-chair of a sub-commitee on education for the Freshman Bi-Partison caucus.   While working with members from both sides on the aisle, we identified reforms and funding issues to be addressed with a time-frame for implementation.  For the past two years I have had the opportunity to participate in several activities with students in schools within the 47th district, and I have met with school board members and administrators on a regular basis to discuss educational issues for the Livingston County area.

Jobs

As a state it is imperative that we work to retain businesses that call Michigan their home while promoting our state to new prospective job providers. I have experience as a business owner and realize the impact of regulations and taxes brought on by state government.  As a participant in public meetings of  the House Republican Task Force on Jobs, I will work to implement policy and tax reforms to encourage overall job growth in Michigan.

Seniors

I have a voting record of supporting issues important to seniors.  Recently I was  recognized by the Area Agency on Aging as a legislator with a 100% record on key issues identified by the agency that effect seniors.  I will continue to work on the behalf of the seniors in Livingston County to address security and safety matters that are important to them.
